switzerland hauteroute

The Haute Route will give you the most extraordinary journey-mentally, visually, and physically, through the Swiss Alps.
Sometimes when I talk about it, I can't believe I really did it.
Wayne Pere was my masterful guide on the Haute Route, a route that takes you through the southernmost peaks of the Alps.
The trail starts at the French/Swiss border town of Chamonix and ends at the base of the Matterhorn.
It took us 10 days to walk over snow, through clouds, and next to glaciers to get to the Matterhorn.
Everyday we started hiking uphill, like a 1000 metres, stopped for lunch at the peaks, and then downhill in the afternoon.

A minimum of 10 hours a day.

It was beyond glorious and stupendous.

We finished our vacation with a 4 day stay in Paris to catch the final leg of the 2011 Tour de France.

And macaroons.
